You will find it in the Information section (the bottom tab on our web page). If you have any further issues, questions or problems please get in touch. Thank you, Margaret. |
| 28th Jun 10 | International call up for Ben Mills |
| MRYUAG are proud to share Ben's good news when he was called to umpire, what we all hope will be only his first, International game. It was England v Scotland U16 Boys at Lilleshall held over last weekend.
Some of the newer members will not have met Ben as he is away at University in Scotland, but if he is around he is always on hand and willing to help.
I'm sure that despite his possible split in allegiances he held no bias to either team. The scores were 9 - 0 and 10 - 0 to England so perhaps not a overly stretching task, but a good marker for the future.
Well done Ben and congratulations from us all at MRYUAG.

| 22nd Jun 10 | England Hockey Volunteer Awards 2009 / 10 |
| We are delighted that this year we had two nominees in the Young Umpires of the Year at the above event - again held at the Nottingham Crowns Plaza Hotel on Saturday 19th June 2010. Vicki Smith and Kevin Freeman had recieved nominations, but at the end of the evening the other nominee Jack Harris (who like Kevin has now moved onto the level 3 register), scooped up the award.
It was a fun filled night and below is evidence of the nominees with their guests, 'out of uniform' enjoying the evening!
Very well done to you both, and I wonder who in 12 months time might be put forward for recognition of their work??

| 18th May 10 | National Youth Festival Report |
| At the Midlands Round of the Yazoo minis' it was pleaseing to see 11 new faces joining 4 of our regular young umpires. This event held at Repton schools for the under 12 yr clubs, present quite a challenge, not only because of the numner of changes in the team numbers but also the changes to the programme!!
Despite this good progress was made throughout the day and it was pleasing to submit our 6 nomines to the National Youith Festival to be held at Nottingham on Sunday 15th and 16th of May. James Barnes, Emily Bower, Sarah English, Will Hessey, Jamie Hooper and Harley Wickstead. Even better that we were asked to provide 2 reserves with the chance to join the gang, Sophie Chambers and Aaron Wilkes. The weather was kind and all preformed well. The icing on the cake came late in the day when Jamie Hooper was awarded the trophy as NYHF young umpire of the year. (click the information section under News updates for his own report).
Well done to all and thank you for representing the Midlands with pride! |
| 22nd Apr 10 | 3 more umpires attain NYUPL status after National U14 competition! |
| At the start of this season, the pathway to gain National Young Umpire Promising List status, changed away for the National challenge weekend, and requires an application via the regional groups and assessment at a National final. This year we had three applicants who all were called to Cannock for the 21st and 22nd April, boy’s competition. I am delighted to record that all our applicants -Tom Cheevers, Tom Swain and Ed Westbrook -umpired really well and have been accepted into the group. In real terms that means 80% of the two top panels in are group have achieved this and reflects on the hard work from our umpires and coaches. Well done to you all, you again give the group great credit.
I feel I must add one final paragraph to ask where our replacement young people are to put forward as candidates in the future? We have an opportunity to send young umpires to High Performance centres along with the players (HiPac's) in October but will need our candidate forms in by the end of June so are you the reader or next high achiever?

| 9th Mar 10 | Midlands YUAG at the National U14 Schools Finals 3rd / 4th March 2010 |
| After a flurry of activity (and even more emails) MRYUAG umpires stepped in to assist England Hockey to provide the umpires for the above tournament. The whole event was a great success and afterwards the NYUPL coach Dawn Bonner, the Tournament Director Colin Barthorpe and EH's own Sarah Capel were delighted in what 'we' had achieved.
So take a bow James Barnes, Luke Burns, Alex Davies, Kevin Freeman, Matt Lomax, Jonathon Oldham, Tom Swain, Ed Westbrook and Harley Wickstead.
Special mention to Jono, Kevin and Vicki Smith who officiated on the two prevoius days (at the U16 + 18 Schools) with Vicki showing fantastic progress.
Don't forget we need your help to find the next generation of talent so keep us informed.
Well done to all and thanks, Margaret McLoughlin |
